C_A.01 Save sea turtles and support environmental protection campaigns on the Pacific Coast (Costa Rica)

Location: Near Quepos, Costa Rica


Description of the Project:

The project was founded by the local community to fight the hunting and poaching of turtles in their area. On the one hand they organize nightly patrols to collect turtles’ eggs and to gather them in a breeding station. On the other hand the project includes social and environmental programs. For example, the project works together with the local school and other pedagogic institutions or they organize clean ups of the local beaches. Besides that construction and maintenance work is needed during the whole year.


  • Supporting the nightly patrols in collecting the eggs of the turtles and data
  • Putting up signs to mark different areas
  • Help with construction of hatchers and maintenance
  • Monitoring of hatchery and releasing hatchlings
  • Collecting data and information
  • Work schedule: 6 to 10 hours, mainly at night
  • Volunteers have one day off per week


Accommodation, Benefits and Costs:

  • You can stay in the project (23 US$ / day including meals, snacks and drinking water)
  • Proyecto Mosaico organizes your placement in the organization and helps you with the transportation to the project location
  • For our work and our services we ask a one-time-only fee of 250 € – regardless of the length of your stay


  • Minimum stay: 1 week
  • Spanish level: Basic
  • English level: Basic
  • Good physical fitness needed
  • Skills and expertise: Interest in animals and community work; further knowledge and skills will be provided by the project
