N_H.04 Work as a trekking guide and hike volcanoes in Nicaragua

Description of the project:

The organization offers adventurous hikes through the volcanoes in the surrounding areas of Leon, Nicaragua, and donates all profits to locally-run projects working with disadvantaged youth. The organization was founded as a means of self-sustainable, grassroots fundraising for the functioning of social projects in Nicaragua with the aim of combating the unfortunate reality of children living and working on the streets of León. Their job is to see that tourism directly benefit those Nicaraguans that need help most: street children and other at-risk youth. They do this by running tourist-oriented, guided-treks to volcanoes.

Your tasks:

  • Lead one-day and multi-day hikes in the volcanoes around León and in the north of Nicaragua
  • Prepare food, ensure well-being and perform basic first aid for international clients, if necessary
  • Help in the office of the organization
  • Help in promotional events and visit the supported projects

Requirements:

  • Minimum stay: 3 months
  • Spanish level: Intermediate
  • Skills and expertise: Good physical condition, experience in hiking and/or trekking, first aid certification, very good interpersonal communicative abilities, lots of energy and enthusiasm

Accommodation, Benefits and Costs:

  • You can stay in the hostel of the organization (20 US$/ week) or stay in a host family (from 50 US$/ week incl. breakfast)
  • Proyecto Mosaico books your lodging, Spanish school and your transportation from the airport, furthermore we offer individual assistance provided by the office in Granada before, throughout and after your stay
  • For our work and our services we ask a one-time-only fee of 250 € – regardless of the length of your stay
