N_H.10 Support the team of the first botanical garden in Nicaragua

Description of the project:

The project protects the environment and biodiversity by running a botanical garden, by educating students and by transferring knowledge on natural resources. The first botanical garden in Nicaragua was founded in 2010 with the aim to exemplify the biodiversity of the country and to preserve natural resources. With environmental education the project contributes to the protection of the ecosystem. Moreover, the organization grows organic food on a small scale and develops new methods of cultivation.

Your tasks:

  • Tasks include e.g. plant breeding and nursery, taking care of the vegetable garden, cleaning the garden, scientific experiments
  • Support workshops for children and families on ecosystems and biodiversity of the country
  • Help to promote the botanical garden among tourists and locals
  • Work schedule: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.


  • Minimum stay: 3 months (students in the field of agriculture (or similar) could stay for a shorter period)
  • Spanish level: Basic
  • Skills and expertise: Interest in plants and biodiversity, interest in eco-farming, cultural sensitivity and openness to learn new skills

Accommodation, Benefits and Costs:

  • Stay with a host family (from 50 US$/ week incl. breakfast) or a shared flat (from 35 US$/week)
  • Proyecto Mosaico books your lodging, Spanish school and your transportation from the airport, furthermore we offer individual assistance provided by the office in Granada before, throughout and after your stay
  • For our work and our services we ask a one-time-only fee of 250 € – regardless of the length of your stay
