United Nations World Water Day
– Unidos por el Agua 2014

On March 22, 2014, Proyecto Mosaico once again celebrated UN World Water Day together with partner organizations from throughout Nicaragua and many volunteers and friends. In the area of the Red Cross (Cruz Roja) Granada, everybody was invited to enjoy a diverse, colorful program on the topic of water and environmental protection. The event was made possible by a successful campaign by Unidos por el Agua.

During the day, participants and visitors to Granada learned about the work of various organizations at their booths (Feria de Agua). Some organizations held workshops and delivered presentations on this year’s motto, “Water and Energy.” As well, there were artistic performances of traditional dance, theater and acrobatics, and a presentation on cooking with solar ovens. Many activities for children were also offered, including face painting, handicrafts and reading. Throughout the day, about 500 people visited the event.

Another main activity was the symbolic cleaning of the lake. Many volunteers assisted in clearing the beach of accumulated garbage.

Logo Waterwalk In the afternoon, all participants gathered as part of the worldwide protest march “The World Walks for Water and Sanitation” through the streets of Granada’s city centre. Everyone was invited to join the march. We had visitors from everywhere, who spontaneously walked with us to campaign jointly for the responsible use of water and energy, both now and in the future.

We are very grateful to everyone who attended and who helped with the event! We thank all participants and volunteers, the German Embassy in Managua, and all private donors. It is through their generous support that this project could be realized.
